The White Dove dental clinic in Milton offers patients with complete orthodontic care and post-treatment retainers.

Our patients are given retainers upon completion of their orthodontic treatment and removal of their braces. Despite the successful completion of an orthodontic treatment, a retainer is needed to hold the new position of the patient’s teeth.

It takes time for the tissues and bone around your teeth to conform to the new alignment of your teeth. The retainer will ensure that this position is held in place for as long as it needs to be.

The length of time a patient is required to wear retainers will depend on the extent of the treatment and the risk of relapse. If a patient decides not to wear one after their treatment – it could potentially cause their teeth to move back into their original position.

There are two types offered by our dental clinic – fixed and removable retainers.

A fixed retainer consists of a wire that is cemented behind your upper or lower teeth. To help maintain the alignment, patients are required to have the wire fixed to their teeth forever. In maintaining good oral hygiene, we’ll recommend and show you ways to properly floss with the wire in place.

With a fixed option, our patients are able to go about their day without having to worry about forgetting to wear their removable retainers.

A removable retainer is an acrylic device with hooks and clamps that is custom made using a model of your mouth. It fits perfectly at the roof or bottom of your mouth, keeping the position of your newly aligned teeth.
